Joint Ventures

Bel-Essex has joint ventures with a number of technical companies around the world providing ongoing insight into the latest industries and technologies including wiring harnesses and automotive interiors designed and manufactured by subsidiaries D&B Wiring and D&B Interiors.

D&B Interiors

During the 1980s, Bel-Essex expanded their existing automotive division and established a joint venture between Dräxlmaier Automotivsysteme (DAS) and GmbH for the production of automotive trim components for the supply of the automotive industry in South Africa and Europe.

D&B Interiors engages in the final assembly of interior components using single workstations, electrical and dimensional testing. The state of the art logistics hardware and software system controls the just-in-time sequencing and supply to the customer lines guaranteeing the best efficiency.

D&B Wiring

D&B Wiring is a joint venture with German-based company Dräxlmaier Automotivsysteme (DAS) and enjoys the advantages of the leading-edge technological developments within the industry emanating from this source.

Competencies within this wire harness manufacturing division include:

Wire Cutting – Wire up to 25mm in diameter is cut to length using automatic high-speed machines. This process includes wire stripping, termination and seal fitment. The facility also exists to cut smooth, corrugates and braided sleeves.

Pre-Assembly – Involves the manual torqueing, crimping, tinning, heat shrinking of cut leads as well as the automatic twisting of leads up to 8m in length.

Assembly – In the final stages of assembly of the wiring harnesses taping, shrinking, splicing and connector fitment takes place on moving assembly lines and single workstations. Final products are then subjected to electrical testing and video scanning before being labelled and packed for shipment according to customer specifications.
